TechSavvy – May 23rd, 2012 Social Networking for the Business Person With No Extra Time

Business owners today know that social media is critical to reaching out and building relationships, but it often feels like a black hole that sucks up all your time. Join us on Wednesday, May 23rd, to learn how it’s possible to use social media sites as effective marketing tools without using up your life to do it. Our speaker, Katie Dyer, will help arm you with the keys needed to reach out successfully as a managed part of your marketing time.

It’s assumed for this topic that attendees already have at least one of the following accounts: Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, or an account on another social media site and are seeking to make more effective use of those accounts in less time.

Meet Katie Dyer. Katie is the owner of CADEAUX du MONDE, an award winning online eclectic, green, fair trade international folk art gallery formerly located at 26 Mary Street, Newport, RI and established in 1987. Having always looked for innovative ways to market her folk art gallery, multicultural workshops and rental business over the 25 years she has been in business, Katie has been actively using social media including facebook, twitter and pinterest as a business marketing tool. In addition to coordinating the social media marketing for her own business, she has started to actively pursue freelance social media marketing work and has a roster of small business clients including the Newport Gallery Organization, Four Seasons Repairs and a number of local galleries. Her focus is on helping small businesses get their social media presence up, running and networked so that it is an easy to use, efficient and integral part of their overall marketing plan.

New Look, New Name

If we’ve known you a while, you may notice that the site has a bit of a new look, and that the name is a little different. What’s with that?

Well, it turns out that even after 7 years of business, many people, even people I know well, just can’t remember the name of my company. I can understand this. It may be descriptive of the services I provide, but it’s also long, and a pain to type. Then, a little while ago, I learned that most people recognize me by my first name, and some don’t even know my last name. It was clear that a change had to be made.

After discussing some ideas with trusted friends and colleagues, I decided to adopt the suggestion RobinTIME. Not only does it focus on the name people recognize, and my identity in the local business community, but it also focuses on what I give most: my time. I give what time is required to ensure that my students understand.

Some people might laugh and say that RobinTIME could refer to anything – even a porn site, and I’d have to admit that this could be true. It doesn’t tell you that I offer technology training services, and have for a long time. But it does tell you that my time is your time when you want to learn computer and application skills. So that’s it: RobinTIME, where technology instruction means empowerment.

To celebrate the new name, the site has been freshened up a bit. I hope you like it.
