It's that time of year again...

Fri, 05/29/2009 — Robin

In just a few weeks, the 2008-2009 school year will be over. I am so proud of every one of my students! The kindergartners are just about done with their first PowerPoint presentation, and with the Memory Books they've made this school year. Their files will be available to parents here on their school pages. Parents will find a guide here on the site to help them download what their children have made.

Their younger friends are wrapping up their first year skills, and next fall will be ready to start working in Microsoft Word. Every one of them is the best!!!

Adults Soon to be Graduating!

Thu, 05/07/2009 — Robin

Members of a Basic Computer Skills class for adults that has been meeting at the VFW Post 4487 in Middletown are in the home stretch of their class. Most of the time, students who enroll are just interested in Windows PC skills, but this class was a combination of Windows PC and Apple users, so we used both in class. Next week will be their last lesson, and they'll be receiving their certificates! Great work to each of you!!!!

New classes are forming that will run in Middletown over the summer. We're also enrolling for Thursday evening classes in Warwick. If you're interested in learning more or in signing up, please call 401.935.1802, or email info@ri-computerlearningservices.com. Soon there will be an enrollment form here on the site, but it's not ready yet.

PS: 5/12/09 - They DID IT!!! Congratulations to all!!! Great job!

The 44th Annual Rhode Island Early Childhood Conference

Sat, 05/02/2009 — Robin

I just walked in the door from the 44th Annual RI Early Childhood Conference, held this year at Bryant University. This conference is the most significant event conducted each year in RI that is dedicated to the continuing education of early childhood educators and professionals. I saw quite a few familiar friends, and made some new ones. This was the 4th year that I've been a vendor there, but it was the first time I've been a presenter. My workshop was about Open Source software, and how it can help RI small businesses, non-profits, and others stretch their IT budgets.

Each year I'm surprised that no one in the press ever seems to be there to cover this event. The few men and many women who attend are heroes, at least in my mind. I love what I do, and I think I'm good at it, but I admire these other men and women because I could never do what they do. I realized when my own children were young just how much I depended on the early childhood professionals who helped me raise my kids while I was working, and I don't think they ever get enough credit for what they do. So, I urge you to tell your child's own classroom teachers just how much you value their service.

Thank you for stopping by!

If you're one of our parents, don't forget to come back next month for more information about what your child is doing in class. Photos will be posted as available, but please realize that there isn't always time or opportunity to snap any during class.

If you're not a CompuChild parent, but want to become one, you should know that we offer a month of free tuition for a child when we start teaching in a new school with your help. It's our way of saying thank you. So, if you'd like to see CompuChild classes in your child's school here in Rhode Island, please contact us with the name and phone number of the owner, director, head teacher, or principal of the school, and we'll follow up on your interest.

We've also started to offer classes to school-age students that are open to anyone. We'll be adding to the site when we have more to report.

And finally, new features will be appearing randomly - so come back often to see how we grow!

Thank you for stopping by in our little corner of the Web.
